Visibility

Visibility decides who can reach an AI Fellow. Every Fellow always has exactly one of three visibility settings, and you can switch between them from the Fellow's monitor page.

The three visibility states

VisibilityWho can talk to itLogin requiredBest for
PublicAnyone with the standalone link or the embedded widget. Anonymous browsers and logged-in users alike.NoDemos, customer-facing tools, public coaching, any quick pilot where you don't need to know who's talking.
PrivateOnly people you've explicitly granted access to from Manage Users. Everyone else gets a "you don't have access" page.YesInternal coaching, manager-only Fellows, anything where you need attributed transcripts or you don't want the link to spread externally.
DisabledNobody. The Fellow still exists in Studio for reference, but visitors see a deactivated page.Pausing a Fellow without losing its configuration, or temporarily taking it offline while you rework it.

Change a Fellow's visibility

Open the Fellow's monitor page from AI Fellows.
Click the visibility dropdown next to the Fellow's name in the hero section.
Pick Public, Private, or Disabled. The change takes effect immediately.

What changes when you flip visibility

  • Switching Public → Private keeps the Fellow's URL the same but now requires a login. People who don't have access get the "no access" page until you add them in Manage Users.
  • Switching Private → Public opens the Fellow to anyone with the link. The access list you built up while it was Private is preserved in case you switch back.
  • Switching to Disabled stops new conversations immediately. Existing conversation history stays available in Studio.
  • Conversation transcripts already on file are not changed by a visibility flip. Anonymous transcripts stay anonymous, attributed transcripts stay attributed.

There's a fourth state, Training, that you'll see automatically while a Fellow is processing newly uploaded Knowledge Base files. You can't pick it from the dropdown. The platform sets it for you and switches the Fellow back to its previous visibility once processing finishes.
